Crafty Cute!

Jessica had this great idea to make T-shirts with the kids' names on them, the letters being made out of cute fabric. I'm so glad she wanted to "craft" this because I had seen these cute little T-shirts in the shops(and thought they were the cutest things), but didn't want to pay the obscene amount that they go for. Luckily, Jessica had scraps left over of this adorable cowboy fabric and she said I could use it for the boys' shirts. So, I did. If you remember correctly, this is the second craft night that we've had, the first one we made the shadowboxes. If your memory fails you, click here.
I definitely am interested in making this a reoccurring event. It's so much fun, and I find it a bit therapeutic. Not to mention, the end results are cute ...you have something to show for your time and work.
Our friend, Shelley, came over too (she was working on her own - sashes for wedding pews- project) We had so much fun rockin' out to Notorious B.I.G and just a- crafting away! It's always serious business, these craft nights are, and Jessica is really good at keeping my A.D.D self on track.
I can't wait to see what she thinks of next. Maybe next time, I can come up with a fabulous idea for a change :-)
So, I'm thinking it would be cute to pair these with black or green long sleeved T-shirts underneath and jeans and boots. Jessica made a T-shirt dress for Sydney. It turned out sooo cute. Y'all should check it out here.
Well, here are some pictures of the finished products:

WOW! Those look REALLY good! I want to know how you cut those out so percisely! And where did you get the templet?
Great job! I want one (two) now!

You are too cute! I've seen these around and thought they were super cute. I may just have to try one for Molly. Did you just print out the text from the computer? Oh, I can see how this would get addicting!

Do you think you would need to sew around the edges? What happens when you wash it? I just don't trust the iron-on stuff. But they are super cute. It would be fun to do some for the girls. So, if you're not too busy...:)

Mary Jo, we did just print a font we liked from the computer and used it as the stencil. Be sure you use a font big enough to really show some pattern, though.

Amy,
Jessica tried to do a cross stitch around the edges but the thermabond that we used was too thick and her needle kept on getting stuck. But it's not necessary to keep it in place, at least that's what the instructions say..... they say it washes fine. I'll let you know how it does in the wash. Jen's interested in doing some too. Maybe next time we're all together, we could do some!!

Hey Amy, I tried to do a zig zag around the edge, but it didn't look right. It wasn't that my needle got stuck, it was that it made holes in the fabric because the glue was behind it. We used Heavy duty thermoweb so it isn't supposed to fray or come off. I think they would be even cuter with an edge, but honestly it was so hard to get it straight on such small letters with all those curves. Next time I may do a big letter and use the "lite" thermoweb with a zig zag though lite doesn't promise that the ends won't fray.
